Noise this weekend from WES safety testing

TriMet and Portland & Western Railroad will be testing upgrades to the WES train signal system between Beaverton and Wilsonville starting Friday night. You may hear the train horn or crossing arm bells late at night and in the early morning hours. The upgrades will improve the safe operation of trains through the communities it serves. The Federal Railroad Administration has required all railroads to implement such a Positive Train Control (PTC) system by Dec. 31, 2018. Expect testing during these times:

  • Friday, Dec. 7, 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8
  • Saturday, Dec. 8, 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9
  • Sunday, Dec. 9 to 4 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10

The work Sunday night into Monday morning will include trains testing the signal system, which will require trains to sound their horns even in designated quiet zones. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank neighbors for their patience as we work to make railroad operations safer for those onboard and nearby.

You can reach TriMet customer service 24 hours a day via text message at 503-238-7433 and on Twitter at @trimethelp. They are also available for phone calls from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven days a week.
