- Durham Business Recycle Ordinance Businesses are required to separate recycling for collection. As a business owner you must provide bins, labeled collection areas and instructions to employees. - Multifamily requirements. If you manage an apartment of multifamily community, your garbage company is required to provide service that meets or exceeds a minimum volume of service for garbage, recycling and glass. All containers must have labels that align with the color-coding below. By 2028, all containers must also be color coded:
The City of Durham is a member of the Washington County Cooperative Recycling Program, which includes Washington County and the cities of Banks, Cornelius, Forest Grove, Hillsboro, King City, North Plains, Sherwood, Tigard, and Tualatin. The Cooperative Program provides waste reduction and recycling education and assistance for community members, apartment property managers and workplaces. Learn more at:
